"The Reflection of Society Through Social Media"- Shawn Kim | STH Talks
Background:
After pitching the idea of organizing a TED talk to my high school principal, he rejected it on the basis that organizing a TED talk presented too many restrictions. Determined to create a platform on which students could share their perspectives, ideas, and stories, I created Westwood's "STH Talks" (STH standing for Society, Technology, and History) instead which were modeled after TED Talks. 8 students presented at the event, which took place on June 16, 2017. Students presented "STH Talks" on a variety of topics such as procrastination, autism awareness, and the psychological effects of music.
I presented my "STH Talk" titled, "The Reflection of Society Through Social Media" during the event, and it discussed how social media reflects the American value of "continuous social progression" and how such a value can contribute to potentially destructive mindsets.
